Subject Information

A Level courses are studied over two years, the first year known as AS and the second as A2. Exact course specifications can be discussed with your subject teacher or Head of Sixth Form. 

Please note that a minimum of Level 5  must be achieved in five subjects or more at  GCSE to study A level courses. For selected subjects Level 6-7 will be required for entry.

Students joining our sixth form are required to choose a minimum of 3 A Level courses:

  • Drama & Theatre Studies
  • English Literature
  • French
  • Geography
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Media
  • Music
  • Physics
  • Philosophy and Ethics
  • Sociology

We also offer BTECs in:

Business Studies, Sport, Music, ICT, Photography, Dance and Design Engineering and Construction. 

These have been designed to develop application skills as well as foster deep knowledge. They will appeal to students who learn theory best through developing practical skills and are excited by the content.
The Level 3 BTEC courses do not replace A Levels but can be equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 A Levels dependent on the course.  Minimum entrance for these courses are Merits at Level 2 BTEC courses plus 5 9 – 4 GCSE passes and a strong commitment to the subject.
