The Peter Brook Project

From December 2015 – April 2016 students from Year 9, 10 and 13 worked on a research, devising and performance project  ( The Peter Brook Project ) with professionals from the Albany  Theatre, Horniman Museum and V&A Museum.

The Victoria and Albert Museum, home of the National Collection of UK Performing Arts recently acquired the personal papers of legendary theatre director Peter Brook – Britain’s greatest living director, whose career has spanned more than 65 years. Sedgehill was one of only six schools selected to work with local arts and heritage organisations to explore the archive and create a one act performance in response to one of Brook’s key works.

Sedgehill students looked at archive materials of Brook’s production of Oedipus, and explored themes of the future, fate and destiny with director Gemma Rowan. From these workshops, they created and performed an innovative 30 minute piece discussing these themes through drama, dance and song, and weaving lines from Oedipus and elements from Brook’s production into their own work.

The group performed to a public audience in the V&A’s lecture theatre and received excellent feedback on the standard of their production.
