~ Last year’s improvements consolidated with a further increase in percentage of students achieving passes in both English and maths ~

Students at Sedgehill School are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results, which show a number of particularly strong individual successes.

Overall, the school consolidated last year’s improvements, with the percentage of students achieving a pass (4 or above) in both English and maths rising again to 48%.

Students celebrating individual successes included Isaac Walker, who achieved three of the top grade 9s – in Maths, Science and English Literature – as well as a number of 8s and 7s.

Head Girl Ilana Gunson, who was on holiday in Florida when results came out, said:

"I'm very proud of myself for achieving four 9s! It's nice to know that all my hard work paid off."

Isaac said of his results:

“I’m so pleased. I can’t believe I got the 9s! This is so good. I want to thank all my teachers for their help and support.”

Student Shantaya Douglas Smith also said:

“I am so happy – really pleased all the hard work I put in has paid off. I am thrilled and can’t wait to enrol in the Sixth Form at Sedgehill.”

Stephan Iovu added:

“I am happy. This is amazing. I am happy, I really am excited and this means I can do the A-level courses I want. Thanks to everyone at Sedgehill.”

Clare Cassidy, Headteacher of Sedgehill School, said:

“We are very pleased for all our students celebrating today, who can be proud that their hard work and commitment to their studies has paid off. Likewise, I would like to thank staff for their ongoing efforts to give students the support and encouragement they need to achieve well.

As a school, we have worked hard to establish a culture of high aspirations and standards, so it is gratifying that this is beginning to show in the results our students are achieving. We look forward to continuing to build on these results in the years to come. ”
