Houses Are Back

We are delighted to announce that we have relaunched the house system. The aim of the house system is to encourage students to become more involved in school life through participation in competitions and activities. The emphasis of participation will be to develop both social and academic skills (including leadership and initiative) together with an appreciation of healthy competition, whilst at the same time having fun.

Every student in Years 7 – 11 will wear a badge denoting the colour of their house on their blazer. This helps to generate a sense of house identify within the school community.

The Houses

You will be pleased to know that the houses will be the original names associated with this school for over 40 years.
Each house is named after a Cathedral in England.

Bristol (Blue)     Lincoln (Green)        Salisbury (Red)          York (Yellow)

Throughout the year, the houses compete in a series of events to win points for their house. These include: spelling; maths competition; performing arts competition; Bake Off; Sports Day; quizzes; sports competitions; Chess Club.

Earning house points

There are many activities running through the school year for students to contribute to their House. Each house point awarded to students automatically adds to the house total and these are recorded by the Head of House System. For the large events, such as the Sports Day, points are awarded based on finishing positions. Students can also gain House Points for taking part in extra-curricular activities, for representing the school and for participating in many enrichment activities.

Leadership Opportunities

The house competition is about participation and working together with students from all year groups. It provides students with opportunities to be a leader either by being a Form Captain, House Captain, Year Captain, and in year 10 and 11 either a Deputy or House Captain or even taking responsibility to help lead a specific activity or event.

We encourage every student to be active member of their house and take every opportunity to gain points for their house. Every point is vital to help be the winning team and lift the house cup at the end of the summer term!
